Social wifi is a concept which means you can use data, collected from visitors while they are using a free wifi offer, in your marketing. Example of such data are email addresses, gender, age, and so on.
There are a number of various Facebook-connected social wifi solutions available. The accesspoint/router is then pre-configured to direct all visitors to the wifi owner's Facebook-page where (s)he is identified (logged in). The wifi network is open and unsecure, but after login communication on Internet is encrypted thru the server. Since the user has logged in it is possible to collect personal Facebook data, like age and gender, and use for direct campaigns.
WifiFront's Facebook connection doesn't require login or identification to get access to the free encrypted wifi. But it is possible to like, share or visit, the wifi owner's Facebook page. Many visitors are willing to thank for the free wifi this way. Hence, the wifi owner can use the Facebook statistics for marketing purposes. WifiFront collects no personal data, but the phone identities are stored, and used to direct campaigns to people (phones!) that have visited the premises.
